Passa Porta zomervitrinedété

Illustration: Window drawing at Belgian Chocolate Village

A flight with a couple of “starlings in sponge pants”, a turbulent train journey to Ostend, a trip across the South American continent in search of the source of the chocolate or a trip through the head of a six-legged woman. Passa Porta’s project #zomerVITRINEdété sends "Brussels on vacation" to imagined places. The international house of literature Passa Porta selected from its immense network some forty illustrators, comic makers and other professional drawing artists who were eager to move from paper to public space and as many small and large windows in shops, swimming pools, houses, cultural centers and metro stations across Brussels. On July 16 2020, that open-air exhibition officially opened the windows to touch Brussels residents on staycation, occasional tourists and haphazard passers-by amidships with colourful and idiosyncratic visions of "Brussels on vacation" until the end of August.

Excerpt of the interview with Bruzz Magazine:

<< The immediacy of window drawing is striking for Anne Manteleers, who conjured up on the windows at the Belgian Chocolate Village on a journey through the South American continent in search of the origins of chocolate. “It depends on the format in which you work. Because of those life-size drawings you regularly have to distance yourself to see what exactly you are doing. This creates a physical interaction that you do not have on paper, but also a social interaction. Although I did not "advertise" this time, just to avoid too many people passing by. I don't mind people watching, but when they come to chat, I find it difficult to concentrate. At the previous Book Fair I made live drawings every day for a week. That is clear, it is a kind of performance and you know that you have spectators. What struck me now when I was working was that people felt like an intruder in a way. While it is actually me who invades their public space.” >>
